Costume Design

Introduction to designing costumes for stage and film. Students work on weekly projects to develop their eyes and skills in color, proportion,
history, character, and text analysis.

Building on the foundation established in Costume Design focuses on a study of text and characters analysis, exploring how characters and story are revealed through clothing choices. Working on two or three texts in the course of each semester, students learn that each week is a step in discovering, revealing, and refining an approach to the text, with the ultimate goal of developing a work process that prepares a student to take a project from its inception in the text to a complete design.

Costume designers are the professionals that are responsible for designing and creating costumes for characters in plays and movies. Besides clothing for the characters, costume designers are also responsible for providing the correct props and other costume essentials for actors. This can include such items as wigs and accessories.
