HOPE Project

Peace education is an approach to education that aims to promote a culture of peace by teaching skills, values, and attitudes that contribute to peaceful
behavior, conflict resolution, and respect for human rights. It emerged in the Balkan region following the conflicts of the 1990s and now that the
tensions are increasing, the improvement of peace education in youth work is very important. On the other hand, history is usually used as a weapon in
order to exacerbate tensions. However, history provides us also examples of peaceful coexistence and cooperation and theatre engaging and
motivating methods to work with young people. The general objective of the project is to develop the capacity of youth workers and educators to
present history in a theatre-based creative and exciting way in order to teach young people lessons for the future with a focus on peaceful times that
were and can be. In order to achieve this objective this project which brings together 5 Balkan countries (Serbia, Kosovo, Greece, Montenegro and
Bosnia) is aiming to develop a methodology “History of Peace for Education through Theatre” and train youth workers on how they can use it in order
to improve peace education with the young people they are working. The project is also going to organize two international meetings using the
methodology with young people from all the countries involved. At the end, it is going to transfer the method to youth organizations not involved in
the project through a MOOC and an online conference..
